From
a band named like that, a bombardment
of relentless grindcore (or something
similar) seemed like the natural
thing to come. Instead, Slipknot-ish
sounding death metal is what these
guys play, and by looking at the
photos of the booklet, the stylistic
similarities (you know, masks and
uniforms for everyone) with the previously
mentioned superband become evident
(and maybe intentional?). Well, a
bit more of originality would be
welcome, guys... As said before,
musically they'll remind you of the
way Slipknot sounded in their first
two widely-known LPs. Nice playing
from everyone, and although a small
improvement on the vocals would be
nice, everyone's doing a good job
and sounding just fine. Unfortunately,
what this record lacks is originality
and standout songs. There are a few
tunes on this album that are good,
but the sum of it isn't good enough
to convince you into buying the record.
Same comment goes for the lyrics,
which focus on showing the band's
disgust on the former Communist regime,
but there's definitely room for improvement
there, too. We all remember how high
the Slipknot hype was a few years
back, and since this record was recorded
in 2004, for this time only we'll
let Anal Stench get away with that.
But, finding your own sound is a
difficult but also essential task
for every band. And that's what they
should aim for in their next release.
