| Perhaps some of you can recall the
band Without Grief, who arose in
late '90s together with some
others in the same vein music wise
from Sweden, like Ebony Tears, Taetre
and Sacrilege. Since the band broke
up and the scene arose so much that
it finally collapsed (giving its
place to bands of today such as Duskfall),
some of those participants began
roaming the metallic soundscapes
with new vehicles. One of them, being
the one presented here, 21 Lucifers.
A band that may contain half of the
former Without Grief line-up, though
its influences and purpose are certainly
rounding the title of this album.
Mixing the usual short-legged, sharp
riffs with a more brutal approach
to the subject, courtesy of the American
school, 21 Lucifers manage to get
a shitload of tunes that are usually
relentlessly aggressive; that doesn’t
mean that these music geniuses are
relied upon such an approach all
the way. Therefore, you’ll
be able to encounter some more melodic
passages, some more modern phases
of the Swedish sound plus deathcore
patterns (yet the basis remains the
same). The marriage of such idioms
isn’t a farce in the extreme
sound and these rapid shots (lasting
approx. one and a half to two mins.
each) in this album won’t probably
change your mind if you think the
opposite, as they’re just traces
of the above left. The use of this
release can be considered as a quick
fix. Oh, "Die Dead Gone" is
pretty close to the late Impaled
Nazarene tunes... |
